This Co-op is relatively young, having been incorporated in 1995. It is the only Co-op located outside of the Territories.
The Co-op opened a new retail facility in the fall of 2000. The Mathias Colomb Cree Nation was building a new school and offered the former school's gymnasium to the Co-op, since it had out-grown it's original location in the band office's building. Other Co-op business includes a gas bar and a 40-seat restaurant.
Mathias Colomb Cree Nation is a remote community located 819 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg, 210 kilometres north of The Pas and 217 kilometres west of Thompson. The First Nation has an on-reserve population of approximately 1,680 residents. As there is no all-weather road access into the community, transportation to the Cree Nation is available by train or air.
