Chipewyan Dene First Nations people formed this Co-op in December 1973 -- the only retail store in the community. Other Co-op operations include a hotel, post office, freight services and video rentals.

Scheduled air service is available from Yellowknife and barge service from Hay River is provided in July. There is no road access. In 1954, homes were moved to the current site and in 1960 a school was built. The local economy is traditionally based and supplemented by arts, crafts and tourism.
